Patient Perspectives in the Development of the SGLT2 HYPE Home Blood Pressure App

As part of the SGLT2 HYPE project, patients were actively involved in the co-creation process of our Home Blood Pressure App. Interviews with three of the 20 participating patients provide valuable insights into why it is so important to include the opinions and perspectives of those affected from the very beginning.

The patients also reflect on their experiences of participating in such a co-creation process and supporting the development of targeted outputs within a clinical trial. Importantly, they encourage other patients to become actively involved in similar initiatives in the future.

While scientific motivation and rationale are indispensable, research can only achieve real-world impact if the perspectives and needs of the actual end users are taken into account. Patient involvement is essential to ensure acceptance, usability, and meaningful added value in everyday care.

A heartfelt thank you to all patients for their valuable contributions and openness, and to our project partner Deutsche Herzstiftung (DHS), represented by Christine Dehn, for conducting these insightful interviews, the project Partner Medizinische Universität Innsbruck, represented by Prof. Sebastain Reinstadler and Dr. Ivan Lechner, our App developer Agindo, represented by Oliver Zott, as well as all the other contributors.

Video interview introduces the SGLT2-HYPE study

A video interview published by the SGLT2 HYPE project partner DGK on Herzmedizin provides an introduction to the SGLT2 HYPE study and its ambition to explore new therapeutic options for people with hypertension and additional cardiovascular risk. Professor Ingo Eitel and Dr Elias Rawish from UKSH speak with PD Dr Stefan Perings about the study’s scientific rationale, objectives and large-scale European collaboration. The interview also highlights the planned involvement of 64 clinical centres and 17 institutions from 13 European countries, illustrating the broad expertise brought together within SGLT2 HYPE.

New perspectives for hypertension treatmen

Project partner DGK has published a short article in Cardio News introducing the SGLT2 HYPE study and its ambition to investigate whether dapagliflozin can improve cardiovascular and renal outcomes in people with hypertension and high cardiovascular risk.

The article highlights the study’s scientific rationale, patient-centred approach and potential to open up a new evidence-based treatment option for hypertension.
